Week Two
Main points from the lecture:

  • In today's lecture we were given a lot of information about the most commonly used computer programs, like INTERNET EXPLORER, WORD, EXCEL & POWERPOINT.
  • The different things you can do in WORD, it's not just about typing.
  • Excel, creating and editing spreadsheets.
  • Powerpoint, rules of presentation: K.I.S.S. = Keep It Simple Stupid.
  • Internet, internet authentication and validation skills.
  • Emails, email protocol, security, etiquette.
  • PDF's, (Portable Document File) Acrobat Reader, and viewing online.
  • Listening/watching audio and video, Windows media player
  • We also where told how to use the online library, and the steps to go through to find the correct type of information we need.

Tutorial

  • In our tutorial today I learnt so much about EXCEL. A lot of the things, I will list below.
  • When wanting days across the top or down the side in the cell where you want the first day to be, type the day, eg MONDAY then drag across or down with the black + curser.
  • To add up the total of a column or row, click the AUTOSUM button (∑) after you have selected with the + cursor.
  • To get an average for a column or row, click the arrow next to the ∑ button. Click average then select what you want to be averaged.
  • Conditional Formatting: Format that tells you about a range. Click on a cell you want formatted then, FORMAT--> CONDITIONAL FORMATTING then enter the format you desire.
  • To take a column as close as it can go, place the curser between A&B columns (for example) and double click.
  • To put a border around cells highlight where you want the border, right click, format cells, select which border you want and where you want it, then press OK.
